Hurricane Irene: Update: Library to Close Early

In advance of the potential hurricane, the county is canceling events scheduled for Sunday.

In preparation for Hurricane Irene's trudge up the eastern coast, and predictions that it will hit New Jersey Sunday, the county has already canceled certain events and closed the parks.

Read on for a list of canceled events, and keep checking back throughout the weekend for continued updates.

  • The two concerts scheduled for Sunday at have been canceled, marking the end of the park commission's summer concert series.
  • The County Caper, to be held in Basking Ridge at the Environmental Education Center, has been canceled for Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Somerset County Park Commission's website will be down from 4 p.m. Saturday through mid-day Monday. Residents will be unable to register for classes during that time.
  • All golf courses throughout the county will be closed Sunday.
  • All park commission facilities—including the county-owned parks in Bridgewater—will be closed Sunday.
  • The Somerset County Regional Animal Shelter is closed Friday due to hurricane preparation. Anyone with an animal control emergency is asked to call local non-emergency police.
  • The Somerset County Public Library will close at 12 p.m. Saturday. Regular hours will resume Monday.
