SUMMER SCIENCE PROGRAMS FOR AGES 10 TO 13
Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center
The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center, located at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey that registration is now open for summer science programs for children ages 10 to 13. AWESIM KIDS (Animals, Wetlands, Environmental Science, and Incredible Minds), a series of programs that will entertain and educate children about science, the environment, and the natural world.
AWESIM KIDS is a unique combination of fun and summer vacation relaxation at which children ages 10 to 13 will enjoy boating, hiking, learning about local wildlife, meeting nature professionals, and going on interesting day trips.
The sessions focus on the environment and outdoor activities offering hands-on learning and peer leadership opportunities, examining our natural history collection, exploring the 450-acre Lord Stirling Park. Each of the sessions is Naturalist-led and individually themed. Favorite activities like berry picking, canoeing, and swimming repeat throughout the summer.
AWESIM KIDS runs for 4 two-week sessions from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday; post program care availabe from 4:30 P.M. -5:30 P.M. for an additonal fee per session.
Monday, July 7 to Friday, July 18
- “YUM!” – fee $720 - A program about wild edibles and growing organic.
Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 15
- “WOW” fee $720 - A program about the World of Wildlife.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center is located within Lord Stirling Park, in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township, and is nestled within 425 acres of the western portion of the Great Swamp Basin of the Passaic River. A swamp vivarium, and an environmentally based library are located within the Center itself.
Blue “BOBO (Buy One - Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
