To honor the memory of the victims of Bridgewater Gurudwara, the Sikh house of worship at 977 Washington Valley Road in Martinsville, will hold a candlelight vigil and a special prayer service starting at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
The candlelight vigil will start at 7:15 p.m., followed by Sikh prayer services from 8 to 9:15 p.m., said an announcement from the Garden State Sikh Association. The association announced that the vigil is expected to be attended by a group of leaders from the interfaith community attending, who also will offer their thoughts.
Langar, vegetarian food as per Sikh traditions, will be served after the services, according to the association.
The Bridgewater Sikh temple had held a vigil last August, following a shootout that killed members of a Sikh house of worship in Wisconsin.
"It is so sad that within a few months of the Wisconsin shoot-out, we're [holding a vigil] again for another senseless act of horror," said member Achint Kaur.
Program and meal open to all
The evening program and meal are open to all. Nearby residents are invited to bring friends and family.
Comfortable, modest clothing is recommended, the association said. Attendees will be required to sit on the floor during services, and are asked to bring a scarf or shawl to cover their heads.
