Second Township Community Blood Drive Set

Participants will be entered into drawing for Super Bowl tix.

Bridgewater Township has partnered with Somerset Medical Center in the Super Community Blood Drive. The township Blood Drive is scheduled to take place at the Bridgewater Municipal Complex from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 14.

All blood drive participants will be eligible to be entered into a lottery to win a pair of tickets to the 2014 Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium.

Please note that New Jersey is currently facing a blood shortage. Despite being one of the most densely populated states, New Jersey frequently has to import blood from other states. The Somerset Medical Center staff will conduct the local community blood drive as part of the hospital’s new mobile blood collection program.

All blood collected at the local blood drive will stay within our community to be used by patients at Somerset Medical Center.

The blood donation process is safe, efficient and takes approximately 45 minutes. Donors  must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 lbs. (Donors who are 16 may donate with parental consent and need to weigh at least 120 lbs.). Appointments are encouraged and can be placed by calling the Bridgewater Health Department at (908) 725-5750.

Additional questions about the blood donation process and individual eligibility (based on medications, health concerns, etc) may be directed to the Somerset Medical Center Blood Donor Program at (908) 685-2926.

Only 10 percent of people who are eligible to donate blood actually do. If donor numbers could increase by only 1 percent, blood shortages would disappear.
