State Looking for Blood Donors

Several blood drives had to be canceled because of the hurricane.

The New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services is looking for residents to donate blood after several blood drives had to be canceled during Hurricane Irene.

According to a release from the township, the hurricane caused the cancelation of several blood drives, impacting New Jersey's blood banks and hospitals.

Residents looking to schedule an appointment to donate blood, or find a local blood drive, can do so by calling the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 or by visiting the website.

The Red Cross is also especially looking for platelet donors, according to the release, and interested donors can call 1-215-451-4153 for an appointment.
