TD Charitable Foundation Donates 50 Trees In Bound Brook

The NJ Tree Foundation and Bound Brook Shade Tree Commission planted 50 trees in Bound Brook last week. On May 15th, volunteers gathered to beautify West 2nd Street, LaMonte Ave, Tea Street, and the baseball fields at Middle Brook Park with the new 12- to 15-foot tall trees. Because of their size, these large trees have an excellent chance of survival and will have an immediate impact on the environment.

The trees are a variety of species including Redbuds, Trident Maples, Dogwood, Prairie Fire Crab Apples, and Tree Lilacs. The species are aesthetically pleasing as they flower in the spring and turn brilliant color in the fall. But more importantly, the trees will add to green infrastructure improvements to mitigate flooding in Bound Brook.

“Trees are a critical component of green infrastructure,” explains Lisa Simms, Director of the NJ Tree Foundation, “They absorb stormwater to reduce flooding. In places like ball fields, trees also provide much needed shade for spectators and players alike.”

The NJ Tree Foundation organized and led the tree planting event. The NJ Tree Foundation plants hundreds of trees each spring and fall with assistance from thousands of volunteers. The Middle Brook Park planting included hard working volunteers from the community, including the Bound Brook Shade Tree Commission. “This is an amazing transformation of the neighborhood,” exclaimed Mary Patten, President of the Bound Brook Shade Tree Commission, “The volunteers were great!”

This planting was made possible through a $25,000 grant from the TD Charitable Foundation.  "We are so proud of our involvement in this great program," said Nick Miceli, Market President and Grant Committee Member, TD Charitable Foundation.
