Two B-R Grads Awarded Larry Cubas Scholarships

JCC gives basketball players Rachel Brodsky, Eric Sherman $1,000 grants

The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center (JCC)  recently awarded two Bridgewater-Raritan High School graduates with the Larry Cubas Scholarship.

This year's recipients are Rachel Brodsky and Eric Sherman. Rachel will be attending The College of New Jersey and Eric will attend Elon University. The scholarships were presented at the JCC's Annual Meeting on June 18.

Each year the JCC awards  two $1,000 scholarships to two high school graduates who attended public high school in Somerset, Hunterdon or Warren counties

The Larry Cubas Scholarship is open to seniors who have played basketball for their  high school or in the JCC League, demonstrated commitment to various community activities beyond sports and are attending a two or four year accredited university in the fall.  The scholarship is also open to a student who is a member of the JCC and/or has been employed at the JCC.

Larry Cubas was an All-Ivy League Basketball Player at Dartmouth, four-time ECAC Player of the Week, a devoted coach, loving husband and father, and a contributing factor to the success of JCC Basketball.

The Larry Cubas Endowment Scholarship Fund was created in memory of Larry Cubas by his fellow JCC Basketball League members and the JCC.  If you would like to make a contribution to the Larry Cubas Endowment Scholarship Fund, contact the JCC at 908-725-6994 or e-mail Info@ssbjcc.org.
