Union Township Woman Sentenced To Seven Years For Vehicular Homicide In Somerset County
Press release provided by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office
SOMERVILLE, N.J.- Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D.
Soriano announces that this morning the Honorable Robert B. Reed, J.S.C.
sentenced Amie Marroccelli, age 41, of Union Township, New Jersey, to
seven years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% to be served without parole
for the vehicular homicide that she committed.
The vehicular homicide was the result of a motor vehicle crash that
occurred on October 10, 2010 at approximately 7:56 p.m. on Interstate 78 in
Warren Township, New Jersey. During the investigation, it was discovered
that Amie Marroccelli was driving eastbound while in the left lane on
Interstate 78.
Steven Wall, age 22, of Annandale New Jersey was also traveling in the same direction. Defendant Marroccelli’s vehicle struck Mr. Wall’s vehicle in the center lane when she abruptly changed lanes. As a result of the impact, Mr. Wall’s vehicle was forced off the highway, where it collided with trees. Mr. Wall died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.
A laboratory analysis revealed that defendant Marroccelli’s blood
alcohol content was .087% approximately three hours after the collision.
An expert for the State testified at the trial that at the time of the crash, the
presence of ethyl alcohol in defendant Marroccelli’s blood would have
been .14%.
On March 17, 2014, after a 2 week trial, a Somerset County Jury
found defendant Marroccelli guilty of committing vehicular homicide, a
second degree crime.
The State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Merrill Mezzacappa.
