YMCA Introducing New Camps This Summer

One of the new camps will be the Olympic Sports Camp.

Among the many summer camps being offered this summer will be one to give children the chance to test out all the Summer Olympic sports they will be seeing on television with the newest Summer Olympic Games Camps through the .

According to a release from the YMCA, kids will have the chance to take part in several different Olympic sports camps, including archery, swimming, gymnastics, basketball, track and much more at the three different branches in Bridgewater, Somerville and Hillsborough.

“Campers will be able to compete on teams in Y Olympics, and at the end of the week, have a chance to take home a gold medal,” said Chris Trigg, camp director at the Bridgewater Y that is offering five one-week sessions of 2012 Olympic Sports Camp, in the release. “They’ll have a great time trying out a variety of sports.”

The camp, the release said, is one of several new ones being offered by the YMCA.

Among those new camps is Future Farmers for those who want to learn to live off the land, the release said, as well as Super Snack camp to show kids how to snack smart while also creating healthy foods.

According to the release, there will also be Water Fun for playing water polo, volleyball and other games. There will also be Music Mix Masters, for those kids who want to be DJs.

“We plan our camp programs with our core values in mind," said Jim Vaccarella, director of the Hillsborough YMCA, in the release. "That’s why you’ll see camps that promote healthy eating, physical fitness and social responsibility. We’re very excited about our 2012 camp season and are certain our new program additions will be a success.” 

Registration is going on now for all the camps, more than 80 in total.

The next open house for the YMCA will be held Feb. 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at each of the three branches.
