Video: Musicians Find Outlet to Share Talents

Off the Grid performs around the county.

They are men who love playing music and didn't have an outlet to do so publicly—and now they are members of Off the Grid, which performs all forms of music locally.

The group is made up of residents from throughout the county, with the main members being Fil Wisneski, of Franklin Park; Alan Zeldin, of Bridgewater; Ed Adams, of Basking Ridge; Dennis Suler, of Basking Rige; Joe Brice, of Gladstone; and Paul Gary, of Glen Rock.

Off the Grid is an offshoot of Acoustic Music in the Park, which was started by Zeldin when he was looking for an opportunity to play music with others.

"I started it because I was sitting home, playing alone," he said. "I started meeting in the park once a month [with a friend]."

The group grew from five to seven, then it became too cold to be outside, Zeldin said. From there, he said, they started meeting at Mannion's, in Somerville.

"And it exploded," he said. "We have 20 to 25 people every week."

The group plays there every Thursday, and Off the Grid is a smaller version with some of the members of Acoustic Music in the Park.

The band has had several gigs, and has been featured at other events, including May's in Bridgewater.

"We play a little bit of everything, and we try to keep it a little off the grid," Suler said.
