Cooperative Housing Home Dedicated to Businessman

The house in Bridgewater was recently dedicated.

As the season changed to autumn, a house in Bridgewater was dedicated to the memory of Edward A. Chandler, a businessman widely known to the Somerset County community.

Cooperative Housing (CHC) hosted the extended Chandler family, Bridgewater Township Mayor Patricia Flannery, township administrator Robert Bogart, council president Howard Norgalis, Office on Aging and Disability Services Executive Director Joanne Fetzko, CHC Board members, CHC residents and local business owners for the special dedication ceremony.

Marguerite Chandler, daughter of the late Edward A. Chandler, and his partner in the Edmar Corporation, shared memories of her father’s strength in business as he pursued a better life for his family while improving the community.

Remembered for Well-Built Homes and the Central Jersey Industrial Park in Bridgewater, Edward Chandler also enjoyed hobbies and was an avid motorcyclist. Marguerite Chandler said that her father had been biking up to the day he died, living life to its fullest.

Marguerite Chandler also was awarded a plaque in recognition of her philanthropic service to the community. Throughout the program, students of La Petite Ensemble—a musical studio in Bridgewater—played piano and sang under the instruction of musician Susan Loring.

CHC Executive Director Angelo F. DiOrio was also present, with board president Steve Johnson and board members Bill Savo, Walt Hansen, Patty Padovani and Mary Belle Hutchison.

The Edward A. Chandler House is home for five senior citizens, ages 62 and over, whose desire is to remain in the community as they age in place.

Staff assist the residents with meals, cleaning and day-to-day activities. Residents benefit from nutritious meals, socialization and a positive environment.

This affordable housing option is owned and operated by CHC, with an office in Somerville. CHC owns and operates seven houses in Somerset County, all providing affordable housing for either men and women who are senior citizens, or younger special needs men.

Construction of additional housing units in Warren is currently underway.

Additional information about CHC housing and services is available at its website.
