Poll: What Should Open in Martinsville Strip Mall?

There are already two vacancies in one shopping center on Washington Valley Road.

With the closing of Fawn Jewelers in the Blacksmith Commons strip mall on Washington Valley Road in Martinsville, that makes two vacancies in that one area.

A store two doors down from Fawn Jewelers has also been empty for quite some time already.

So, Bridgewater, we want to know what you think should open there.

Much of the Martinsville shops are small businesses, restaurants, studios and other local companies, owned by residents of Bridgewater and nearby towns. Do you want to see that kind of shop open again?

Or is Martinsville missing something that you would love to have?

Take our poll, and let us know what you would like to see open in that strip mall. And tell us in the comments what you think of the vacancies and what you hope comes soon.

Laurie Squire A good bakery would be great with good mix of treats and more healthy fare. I would Love to see a bookstore (sigh). WIshful thinking, but a Trader Joe's would be phenomenal and would bring other people in to shop our stores. Also, other smaller specialty food stores such as an oils&vinegars shop and/or a spice and herbs shop.

I would like to see some type of convenient take out food with small eat-in area - Subway shop, cheeseburger restaurant, decent Chinese (like Ling Ling). It would be great to have lunch and dinner choices that are kid-friendly beyond Italian/pizza. Bakery would be nice as a secondary choice. As long as we are dreaming, Trader Joe's would be amazing as well as a large pharmacy.

Honestly I wouldn't mind if the entire strip mall closed. I think the nice little town has gotten a bit out of control with one strip mall after the next. While I understand there will be changes in years, I think this has gone too far. Does this little section of Bridgewater need to have all of what we fell in love with taken away? I don't think so and am a bit saddened by its appearance.

Would love to get more of home town feel so no chains please. A bakery sounds nice and having a loungy area for espresso would be nice too. DD just doesn't lend itself to kicking back in a comfy leather chair and reading the Times (am I the only one that still doesn't mind getting my fingers inky??) A place where we can actually stop, smell the coffee, have a great "homemade" slice of banana bread and if we're lucky bump into a neighbor or old friend. Something Starbuckian but with and individual mom and pop flare.
