5 Facts About Route 22 Sustainable Corridor

On Thursday, the county will be hosting a presentation concerning the project. So in advance of that, we present five facts to know about the project to get everyone prepared for the information session.

The presentation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the administration building on Grove Street in Somerville.

  • Short Term Plans—These include reconstructing the Route 22 eastbound shoulder as an auxiliary lane for the Route 202/206 on-ramp; installing a new traffic signal at the intersection of Foothill Road and Ronson Road, with a left-turn lane; and improving access at , among other plans.
  • Long Term Plans—This includes removing the median u-turns at Adamsville Road and North Gaston Avenue, and is expected to be done around 2014.
  • June 2012—The design plans were expected to be completed this month, with construction to start in February 2013.
  • Comments Mixed—Residents have been mixed in their reactions to the projects, but they do believe that the long term plans are most important.
  • Two Towns—This project follows the sustainable corridor of Route 22 that goes through Bridgewater and Somerville.
