5 Things to Know About the Primaries

Check out our list to help get your day started.

At the risk of saying too much about it, today are the New Jersey primaries, designed to choose candidates for the November elections. We encourage everyone to head out and vote, so in honor of that, we present five things to know about the primaries today.

  • Open Polls—The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Click here to find out where your district will be voting.
  • No Races—There are no contested elections in Bridgewater. Councilman Filipe Pedroso is running for the Republican nomination, and William Metz is running for the Democratic nomination.
  • Congressional Race—The most visible race is for the 7th district Congressional race, with the district for the first time encompassing all of Bridgewater. Incumbent Leonard Lance is running against David Larsen.
  • Official State Primaries—Tuesday is also of course the day that New Jersey residents cast their votes for the candidate they want to see run against President Barack Obama in November. Although Mitt Romney has already clinched the Republican nomination, that doesn't mean you shouldn't let your voice be heard.
  • Voting on Party Lines—The votes are in individual parties only, choosing the specific candidates to run in the actual November elections. So only those who are registered as Democrat or Republican will be voting in the primaries.
