Bridgewater Nurse Receives High Honor

Barbara Cianflone received the 2013 Jean Dougherty Award.

A Bridgewater resident has been awarded the highest nursing honor from Somerset Medical Center’s Critical Care Unit.

Barbara Cianflone, RN, was recently awarded the 2013 Jean Dougherty Award, named for a former medical center nurse who was a role model for her high performance, loyalty and advocacy for both nurses and patients.

According to a release from the Somerset Medical Center, Cianflone began working as a patient care technician at the medical center in 1994, and has been a nurse in the critical care unit since 1995.

Cianflone is a graduate of Raritan Valley Community College.

“Barbara is an outstanding critical care nurse that brings heart to our unit and patients every day,” said Thomas Finer, nurse manager of critical care at the center, in the release.

In addition, nurses at the center were honored May 7 in celebration of National Nurses’ Week.

Nurse of the Year awards were presented to:

  • Practice Award—Mary Cuccio, of Flemington, and Nancy Roberts, of Somerville
  • Performance Improvement Award—Peggy Roxbury, of Stanton
  • Professional Development Award—Connette Bercik, of Oldwick
  • Patient/Famly Education Award—Christine Woolf, of Flemington
  • Research Award—Esther Hart, of Whitehouse Station, and Karen Ricigliano, of Flemington
  • PCT of the Year Award—Bibi Mangal, of Bound Brook
  • Friend of Nursing Award—Arsalan Malik, of Hillsborough
