Bridgewater Patch Editor Bids Farewell

Audrey Levine says goodbye to the site she launched.

I am two weeks shy of three years with Patch, and only about a month shy of three years since that fateful day in July 2010 when Bridgewater Patch launched to the world.

But Friday is the day that I have to bid a fond farewell.

Friday is my last day with Patch, and Bridgewater Patch, a site I have grown over the last three years to bring the residents of this awesome Somerset County town the most comprehensive news and information I can.

We have been through a lot together—one hurricane and one superstorm, cell towers, lawsuits, lacrosse championships, election changes, budgets and far too much more to recount here.

And along the way, you have welcomed me, well, onto your computer, while sharing with me the big events of your lives, from sports accomplishments to graduations and awards.

I expected when I first thought about writing this letter (yesterday) that I would be able to spout off individual memories about my time covering this town, moments that changed me, moments that stood out. But really, what has always stuck with me over the past three years has been the comments I have received from residents.

I don’t want to get too sappy (frankly, it would be very hard to both write and read on the computer if I had tears streaming down my face), but the moments that have become ingrained in my memory are when people say, “I love Patch!”

Just hearing people say that that’s where they get all their news, or they loved a particular story, or they appreciated the coverage of an event are what have made me feel like it is all worth it.

And of course I will say that the two times I have been called a celebrity in this town have been exciting, if not very humbling.

So that’s what this time has meant to me. I have learned more than I ever thought I could about how to be part of a town, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Thank you for the trust you have put in me, Bridgewater, to report the news that matters to the residents of this town—and I guarantee you, I will be seeing you soon.
