JCC Celebrates Purim With Annual Carnival

Rock climbing wall and model race cars highlight the festival.

The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center was filled with hundreds of kids, both young and old, as the center hosted its 14th Annual Purim Festival Sunday.

"This is a fun event for everyone," said Debbie Golden, marketing and public relations director for the JCC. "It’s an opportunity for families and the community to come together, celebrate and have a good time."

Volunteers helping out at the festival included local boy and girl scout troops and members of the JCC swim club.

The carnival featured games of skill and chance, a rock climbing wall, pony rides and a GyroXTREME ride, which spun those brave enough to try upside down and sideways. New this year was a remote control model car race track to test driving skills.

Purim is one of the most joyous and fun holidays on the Jewish calendar. It commemorates the time of the Jewish people living in Persia, and the woman who saved them from being killed by an evil decree.

This year the holiday will begin at sundown Feb. 23, and last until sundown Feb. 24.

B flake, pass a little bit of that Purim mattanot la-evyonim to me, and I'll work on that for you!
