“Dancing with the Stars” Cheryl Burke Headlines Somerset Medical Center Program: Transform Your Heart, One Dance at a Time

Cheryl Burke, two-time “Dancing with the Stars” champion and health advocate, will headline a special Somerset Medical Center community health education program as part of American Heart Month. Burke will present “Transform Your Heart, One Dance At A Time” on Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Bridgewater Manor. She will discuss her tips for maintaining a heart-healthy lifestyle. Ranjita Sengupta, MD, Somerset Medical Center cardiologist, will discuss the differences between signs and symptoms of a heart attack in women and men, diagnosis, treatments and prevention strategies including exercise such as dance can reduce your risk. Local professional dancers will teach simple dance steps.

Burke was “Dancing with the Stars” first professional dancer to appear in the finals six times and the semi-finals nine times, becoming champion with Drew Lachey in Season 2 and Emmitt Smith in Season 3. She opened her first dance studio in California in 2008. In 2011, she released her autobiography “Dancing Lessons:

How I Found Passion and Potential on the Dance Floor and in Life.”

Burke will be available to sign books after the Feb. 11 presentation.
