Far Hills Country Day School Student Produced Literary Magazine, Collectors' Items, Receives First Place Classification from the American Scholastic Press Association

Far Hills, NJ – Far Hills Country Day School (FHCDS) is proud to announce that it’s student produced literary magazine, Collectors’ Items, received a "First Place" classification from the American Scholastic Press Association's (ASPA) annual literary magazine contest.  The magazine exemplified the superior efforts of talented creative editors, writers, artists, photographers, layout/graphics designers, staff members and advisor, Upper School English Teacher, Lauren Bergland.  2013 marks the seventh year that Collectors’ Items has placed first or second in the ASPA’s annual literary magazine contest.

Collectors’ Items is FCHDS’ literary magazine where students share their writing, photography and art with staff in the hopes of earning a spot in this award-winning magazine.  Each year, new editorial staff is comprised of a select group of eighth-graders, who gather to conceptualize and design the magazine.  Year after year, these editors bring enthusiasm and vision to the magazine with a quiet understanding among the editors to preserve the defining aspects of the publication.

According to Jayne Geiger, Head of School, “It's important for Middle School students to find their voice. Collectors' Items, our literary magazine, is an outstanding venue for self-expression in different genres-- poetry, narrative, essay, art, and photography. Our teachers are experts at encouraging their students, uncovering their talents, and guiding these promising authors and poets to use the written word to communicate their feelings, beliefs, musings.  What a great feeling of satisfaction to be published while in Middle School!”
