Bridgewater Woman Has a Mission to Find 50 Potential Bone Donors

Niki Dawson is on a mission to collect as many potential bone marrow donors as possible to help her friend.

When Niki Dawson, of Bridgewater, learned a friend needed a bone marrow transplant due to a leukemia diagnosis, she decided to help out.

But she didn't just join a fundraising event or click on an online link—first, she decided to become a donor; then, she went a step further.

"I wound up hosting a 'swab party' with a goal of getting 50 friends to register to become donors," she said. She hit her goal with the swab party, with almost all of the new donors from Bridgewater.

She hasn't stopped yet, either—armed with a supply of swabbing kits from Delete Blood Cancer, she's still out adding to the list of donors.

"We've been swabbing at soccer practices, local workplaces, parking lots—you name it," she said.
