Township Honors 9/11 Victims, First Responders

Bridgewater Township held its annual 9/11 memorial ceremony Tuesday, honoring those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks, and the first responders who protect residents everyday.

The ceremony was held at the township's memorial at the municipal building on Commons Way.

The ceremony featured a keynote speech from Sen. Michael Doherty, R-23, as well as words from Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and the placing of a wreath at the memorial.

Bridgewater Township Mayor Daniel Hayes said during the ceremony that the township has improved its memorail on the advice of residents by adding a bench to it this year.

June Wildman—a Martinsville resident whose daughter, Alison, died on the 92nd floor of the North Tower—said it means a great deal to her for the township to continue to have this ceremony every year.

"People remember and the town remembers," she said. "It makes the day easier being around people who remember."

Wildman said it is important for people to continue to remember the day, and to teach it to their children so they never forget.

"I hope people think about 9/11 and not forget," she said. "It is important that parents explain what happened, and they grow up understanding so they can pass it on."
