You're Invited to a Party Hosted by a Pony

Rebel the Pony holds another annual party and invites young and old.

Sometimes there's just not enough days in the week, but every Wednesday we'll give you an idea of something to do to relax, spend time with family and just take some time for yourself.

This Sunday, Aug. 19, will be a very special day at the Somerset County Park Commission Lord Stirling Stable, at 256 South Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., family and friends are invited to celebrate “Rebel the Pony's Special Event,” a summer party hosted by a remarkably friendly four-legged character. Rebel is actually a miniature horse who gives lead line pony rides to the smallest of the children who visit Lord Stirling Stable. He is just under 10 hands high, about the size of a St. Bernard.

Rebel the Pony and all of his people friends will enjoy free games, story times and refreshments. All of Rebel's pony friends will be on hand to greet visitors and provide free pony rides.

Afterwards, beginning with registration at 4 p.m., the Friends of Lord Stirling Stable will host the 12th Annual “Canine Scavenger Hunt.” Participating dogs and their owners will seek canine treats and treasures along the trails of Lord Stirling Stable from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Fee is $10 per dog and handler, with a $2 charge for each additional person. Prizes will be awarded to all participants.

Earlier, beginning at 9:30 a.m., Lord Stirling Stable will host the 1st Annual Jersey Soar Disc Dog Challenge, a regional competition of a series of events held across the country featuring all breeds and mixes of dogs.

The contest will feature some of the Northeast's most exciting Disc Dog Teams and is open to all levels of competitors. The event features six events, with the top team in each discipline earning a ticket to the Skyhoundz Disc-Dog-a-Thon World Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Presenting Saturday's event is Skyhoundz, Mid-Atlantic Disc Dogs, and Alisa Vargas of Jersey Disc Devils. Spectators will be admitted free of charge. Information is available at jerseydiscdevils@gmail.com.
