What's Open/Closed Over the Holiday

NJ Transit adding trains to accommodate riders.

By Mike Deak

The Fourth of July used to be a day when the nation stopped to celebrate its birth and the revolutionary Declaration of Independence.

But now, 237 years after that historic day in Philadelphia and 201 years after the fledging nation was fighting to retain its independence in the War of 1812, most non-retail businesses and government offices are closed, but stores will remain office.

NJ Transit trains and buses will run on holiday schedules. However, to accommodate spectators traveling to the New Jersey waterfront to view the annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks display over the Hudson River, NJ Transit will add trains to and from Hoboken Terminal before and after the event.  Certain trains will depart from Hoboken Terminal later than their scheduled times following the event.

The Bridgewater Township Yard Waste Site, 136 Foothill Road, will be closed July 4-6. The facility will reopen on Monday, July 8.
