Jewish Community Center Raises Pool Bubble

By raising the bubble over the pool, it allows us to double our pool capacity and answer the aquatic needs of our members and the community in a way we haven't been able to before.

Undoubtedly if you have been to the JCC since September 23, you have seen the large white dome, or bubble as we like to call it, that is now covering our outdoor pool. Maybe you’re not sure exactly what it is or how it fits into the JCC. Maybe you think is just looks cool.(Have you seen the time lapse video of the bubble being raised? http://youtu.be/zZ4Qo3uO9O4)

The real question is “Why is this a big deal for our JCC?” First, you should know, our JCC is the only other JCC in North America — other than the JCC in Charlotte, NC — that has a bubble. In New Jersey, the only other pool with a bubble is the Atlantic Club in Manasquan. That puts us in pretty rare territory, and to say we are pioneers isn’t far from the truth! Do you remember when we converted the indoor pool to a salt water filtration system? Well we were one of the first few salt water pools in the state.

By raising the bubble over the pool, it allows us to double our pool capacity and answer the aquatic needs of our members and the community in a way we haven't been able to before. It’s a home for our Bridgewater Tide Swim Team , 170 swimmers strong, it allows for more lap swim space, more private and group swim lessons during the week, an adaptive aquatics program, special family events and more time for free swim.

Our Summer Swim Club will open Memorial Day sans Bubble, because you see, the bubble will come down every spring to allow everyone to enjoy the outdoor air and community fun that is the JCC Summer Swim Club.

It has been a long time coming,  years since the original conception, and 2 years since the Board of Directors approved the project in the winter of 2010, the Bubble is here. We hope you enjoy it.
