Retired Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School Teacher Thomas Lonie Dies at 78

Thomas Lonie, 78, of Green Brook, died Monday at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Lonie was a resident of Green Brook for over 40 years. He faithfully served in the U.S. Navy before earning his master’s degree and becoming a teacher. Thomas taught at Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School in Bridgewater for over 40 years before retiring. He loved to play cards and go to the Sunset Diner.

Surviving are his wife of over 50 years, Rita; a niece Rita Tishuk and husband Nicholas of Brooklyn, NY; and Patricia Tishuk of FL.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Church, Dunellen. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Thomas’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 and Boys Town National Headquarters, 200 Flanagan Blvd, PO Box 8000, Boys Town, NE 68010.
