John Fontenelli, 80, Navy Veteran and 'Putting Champion'

Services held Dec. 2 for 30-year Bridgewater resident.

John L. Fontenelli, 80, passed away Nov. 26. He was born in Westfield and a former resident of North Plainfield, and has resided in Bridgewater for the past 30 years. 

Mr. Fontenelli served in the United States Navy.

John graduated from Newark College of Engineering. He was a tool and die maker and later became vice-president of Engineering for Fibro Corp. in Clark. He then held the position of national director of Tooling at Calmar International.

He retired in 2003 and was the partner and vice-president of Design & Molding Services, Inc. in Piscataway. 

John was a 30-year member of the Raritan Valley Country Club where he was a Putting Champion and had the nickname "The Blade." He was a former member of the Jersey Boys' State, Rutgers University, Unico National, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Bowling Congress and the Society of Plastics Engineers. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Rubina Fontenelli and his son, John L. Jr. in 1980.

Surviving are his loving sons, Jeff Fontenelli and wife, Karen of Westfield and Patrick Fontenelli; his two grandchildren, Michael and Shauna, both of Westfield; his dear sister, Shirley Godsey of Bristol, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Dec. 2 at the Church of St. Anne, 325 Second Ave., Garwood. Interment followed Fairview Cemetery, 1100 E. Broad Street, Westfield.
