Stanley "Stash" Lukaszewicz, 71, Was an Army Paratrooper During Vietnam War

Family emigrated to the U.S. after being forced to work German prison camps in 1942.

Stanley F. Lukaszewicz, 71, died Nov. 9 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.

He was the son of the late Stanislaw and Helena Lukaszewicz, and was born in Poland in 1942 before he was transferred to Germany at the age of 1 when his family was forced into work at the labor camps. When the American Army liberated Germany, the family was given the opportunity to migrate to the United States in 1951.

They moved to Bayonne where "Stash," as he was known, was a 1961 graduate of Bayonne High School. He was a gifted athlete and played football for Bayonne High School.

Later, Stash was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a paratrooper being honorably discharged in October 1970.

He lived in Bayonne and worked for PSE&G as a lineman retiring in 1998, after which he and his family moved to Bridgewater.

He was a member of the Bound Brook Moose where loved to play poker and was a NY Yankees fan.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Linda, who died May 7, 2010.

He is survived by his children, Marc Stanley Lukaszewicz and wife Erin of Bel Air, Md., and Beth Ann O’Rourke and husband Keith of South Plainfield; four grandchildren, Connor, Abigail, Ella and Ethan; sisters, Mary Kobylinski of Caldwell and Antoinette Cushing and husband Frank of Park Ridge.

Prayers will be said at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Bound Brook.

Burial will follow at Bound Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
