Tough Loss

The Bridgewater Raritan Varsity Football team could easily have a 4-1 record after 5 games. Unfortunately, thanks to a last minute loss in Hillsborough and this past Friday nights tough 16-7 loss at home to Phillipsburg, the team stands at 2-3.

Yes the Panthers went toe to toe with the Stateliners and had their chances to win, moving the ball up and down the field, but they only came away with 7 points. Quarterback Michael Fair and wide receiver Josh Robbins combined on a beautiful TD pass in the first half, giving the Panthers a 7 to 3 lead at the time.

The Panther defense should be acknowledged for another strong game. They did allow Phillipsburg running back Anthony Guarino to rush for 111 yards, but they also forced two fumbles and for much of the night they stopped the Stateliner offense.

The game was a very physical match up with many hard hits delivered throughout the evening. Kudos to the coaching staff for having the boys prepared to play hard all night long.

The Panthers will now, have to not concern themselves with what could have been, but instead what they must do moving forward.

Up next, an away game in Elizabeth on Friday at 7 pm.
