Bridgewater Hindu Temple Ex-Chairman Accused of Stealing Over $100K

Temple leaders filed a lawsuit last week but the county prosecutor's office is not pressing charges.

Leaders of the Bridgewater-based Hindu Temple & Cultural Society of USA have accused their former chairman of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the congregation's donation box.

The organization, which runs  the Sri Venkateswara Temple on Route 202/206, filed a lawsuit against Subbarao Vemulapalli alleging the ex-leader stole money from the temple amounting to a possible six-figure sum, reported MyCentralJersey.com. Temple leaders claimed the theft was caught on hidden camera.

The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office declined to file criminal charges against Vemulapalli, who served as chairman and board member for six years, because of insufficient evidence to support the allegation.
