The arrests mark the end of a two-month long narcotics investigation.

A Bridgewater resident was arrested on Sept. 14 following a two-month long narcotics investigation, according to a release from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

Shaun Scannell, 24, of Valley View Road, was charged with three counts of distribution of marijuana, two counts of distribution of psilcybin mushrooms, three counts of distribution of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, one count of possession of psilucybin mushrooms with intent to distribute and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, Scannell met with an undercover detective Aug. 4 and sold him marijuana for money.

Then on Aug. 11, Soriano said, Scannell negotiated another deal with an undercover detective to sell him marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms in exchange for money.

The undercover detective met with Scannell a third time on Sept. 14, Soriano said, and received marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms from Scannell in exchange for money. At this time, Soriano said, Scannell was placed under arrest, and a digital scale, cellular telephone and $430 were seized from his person.

Soriano said Scannell gave consent for a search of his home, and detectives found a large plastic bag with psilocybin mushrooms and drug paraphernalia.

Soriano said the estimated street value of the seized psilocybin mushrooms is $900.

And the three narcotics transactions, Soriano said, occurred in the area of Mercer Street and Route 22 in Somerville, about 1,000 feet from Immaculata High School.

Scannell was processed and released on his own recognizance.
