Car Blaze on Route 287 Results in No Injuries

State police said the fire was extinguished in approximately five minutes.

A Saturday afternoon car fire caused by a mechanical malfunction near mile marker 19 on Interstate 287 southbound in Bridgewater resulted in no injuries, according to the New Jersey State Police.

The North Branch and Green Knoll Fire Departments extinguished the fire in approximately five minutes, Trooper C. Rodriguez said. The only occupant of the car was the driver, Rodriguez said.

At approximately 1:10 p.m., firefighters could be seen hosing down the steaming vehicle, which was towed by Colonial Garage. The right lane of the highway was closed and traffic was slowed in the left lane until the scene was cleared.
