Man Fatally Struck By Raritan Valley Train in Bridgewater

The investigation is still ongoing.

A man was killed after stepping in front of a train on the Raritan Valley Line in Bridgewater early Thursday evening, according to a spokesperson from NJ Transit.

Penny Basset Hackett said that at 5:50 p.m. a train was headed from Raritan to High Bridge when a male stepped onto the tracks in front of it.

"He was fatally injured," she said.

Service has been halted on the line from Raritan to High Bridge, and passengers on the 5:50 p.m. train were taken to their destinations by bus.

NJ Transit Police are still investigating the scene, and declined to comment at this time.

Residents of the condo complex directly behind the rail tracks said they did not hear anything until the train stopped.
