Fire Fighter Friday: Meet 2nd Lt. Shaun Woodruff

Joined company as a 14-year-old cadet 10 years ago.

Editor's note: This is the second article in a series on Bridgewater Patch recognizing the contributions of the township's volunteer fire fighters, your neighbors and friends. This week, meet the first of our features on the line officers of Bradley Gardens Volunteer Fire Co.   

"These are the guys that really make things happen for me and they deserve recognition for it," Frank Ur, Bradley Gardens Volunteer Fire Co. chief, said. 

Shaun Woodruff, 23, is serving as a second lieutenant for the Bradley Gardens Volunteer Fire Co. this year, as a 10-year member of the company.

"I joined the department as a cadet in 2004 at the age of 14," he said.

Woodruff is a certified firefighter, having completed the Firefighter 1 and Firefighter II courses at the Somerset County Fire Academy, and also completed the Firefighter Assist and Search Team training at the Hunterdon County Fire Academy.

He served as chief engineer for the company last year, and is taking on the new duties as he works on completing his studies for a bachelor's degeree in criminal justice. 

"I look forward to this year serving and protecting my community," he said.

Woodruff added he wanted to dedicate this year to "one of our fallen life members"—Joseph Giranda—who died on March 6, 2013.

"He is missed by all," Woodruff said.
