Route 22 Lane Closed Near Thompson Ave. While Oil Cleaned

A dump truck hit a divider and began leaking oil around 7 a.m.

The left lane of Route 22 West near Thompson Avenue was closed around 7 a.m. Tuesday after a dump truck hit a concrete barrier and began leaking oil onto the road.

According to Bridgewater Township Police, the truck broke its axle when it hit the divider, and began to leak oil into the road.

Traffic had to be diverted from the lane while clean-up was done and the accident cleared.

Police said the lane is still closed while they wait for the New Jersey Department of Transportation to clean up the spilled oil, but the truck has been cleared away and the road is expected to reopen very soon.

No injuries were reported in the accident, police said.
