“This is based on the township having structures that are considered high priority targets,” he said. “One of those is the mall, so this is to fortify security.”

The contract for the system was awarded by the township council to Royal Communications, Inc., and is for $105,865.38.

Naples said none of this will be paid for by the township.

“There will be no township funds paid to buy the system, but there might be some for maintenance,” he said. “We don’t know now, although the mall will own the system once it’s installed.”

Naples said the will be working with management at the mall to ensure the quality of the system, which will serve as a public address in the case of emergencies.

“We identified the need for the public address to provide clear communication throughout the mall, and to link those messages back to the police department,” he said.

What do you think of the addition of this public address system? Will it make the mall that much safer?
