Man Charged In Robbery of Purse Outside Bank

Virginia resident George Bryan allegedly tried to steal a woman's purse outside Bank of America.

A Virginia resident was charged Monday in a robbery outside the Bank of America in the Somerset Shopping Center, according to a release from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

George Bryan, 45, was charged with second degree robbery in the incident.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, on June 17 at 12:34 p.m. a female customer exited the Bank of America and was approached by Bryan, who allegedly ran up to her and forcibly removed her purse from her arm.

Soriano said the female chased Bryan, and he threw the purse on the ground before getting into a Jeep Cherokee that was registered to a Hillsborough resident.

The vehicle, Soriano said, was found by Hillsborough Township Police, and Bryan was found operating it.

According to Soriano, Bryan was lodged in Somerset County Jail with bail set at $100,000 cash.
