Police and Detectives Make $57K Median Salary. Interested?

The Somerset County Police Academy is offering information and training sessions for those interested in a law enforcement career.

One bright spot in the New Jersey employment outlook for law enforcement officers is the need for police and Sheriff's patrol officers. 

While job growth for supervisors, corrections officers, jailers and transit police is expected to shrink as much 500 positions by the year 2020, the New Jersey Dept. of Labor and Workforce Development anticipates there will be 300 new openings created for police and Sheriff's parol officers

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for police and detectives is $56,980 per year. 

To encourage people consider careers in law enforcement, the Somerset County Police Academy will hold a two-part information session and training. 

Part one is a free training session scheduled for Monday, March 3 at 6 p.m. at the Somerset County Emergency Services Training Academy (ESTA) at 402 Roycefield Rd. in Hillsborough. Pre-registration is required by February 21 by downloading this registration form from www.scpo.net

Part two is an 8-week weekly session beginning Monday, March 10 -  May 5.  Registration for this portion of the program will be taken at the March 3rd session. The cost is $50.
