New Commissioner Fills Position Father Once Held

Two new commissioners are sworn in to office in Fire District No. 1, and one officer receives the badge once worn by his father.

At the March 8 reorganization meeting for Fire District No. 1, two newly elected members,  Jim Kalafsky and John Lichtig, were sworn in as new commissioners by board clerk Greg Durant.

As part of the ceremony, the new commissioners were presented with their badges of office.

Kalafsky was presented the badge originally presented to his father, Al Kalafsky, who served as a commissioner of the district for many years, dying in office in 1996. On hand for the presentation was Kalafsky’s mother, Peg, who made the presentation.
