Non Life-Threatening Injuries Reported in Morning Crash

A Branchburg woman is suffering from non life-threatening injuries after she drove her vehicle into the back of a garbage truck.

A Branchburg resident suffered non life-threatening injuries in a morning crash on Route 28 Tuesday that involved a garbage truck.

According to Bridgewater Township Police Officer Robert Stasiulaitis, Samantha Kilduff, 30, drove her vehicle into the back of a garbage truck while it was stopped at a red light on Route 28 at 10:33 a.m.

"She did not see the truck was stopped at the light," Stasiulaitis said. "It is being considered driver inattention at this point. There was nothing reckless."

Stasiulaitis said Kilduff was taken to Somerset Medical Center after the crash because of complaints of pain, but her injuries are not considered serious. The vehicle, he said, could not be driven after the crash because of heavy damage to the front of it, and the airbags were deployed.

The driver of the garbage truck—James Gerber, 46, of South Plainfield—did not suffer any injuries in the incident, and the truck was not damaged either.

"There was no damage to the truck, and the driver was able to just drive away," Stasiulaitis said.

According to Stasiulaitis, the incident is being considered a basic motor vehicle accident, with no charges currently being considered.

"Kilduff said she doesn't really remember what happened," he said. "But it was a basic accident with substantial damage to the car."

In addition, Stasiulaitis said, traffic was not stopped at the accident site at the intersection of Route 28 and Vanderveer Road. He said the police were able to clear the situation very quickly, with no problems.

"There were no traffic delays," he said. "No interruptions."
