Overturned Vehicle Closes Route 28 at Bound Brook Border

The Bridgewater Police were among those that responded to crash near I-287 overpass.

An accident that resulted in one vehicle overturning caused the closure of Route 28 near the Interstate 287 overpass Sunday evening at the Bridgewater-Bound Brook border.

Somerset County Emergency Services, the Bridgewater Police Department, the New Jersey State Police and the Finderne First Aid Squad were among those that responded.

The accident occurred on the Bound Brook side of the roadway at about 6 p.m. The crash involved at least three vehicles, with one coming to rest on its side.

Traffic heading east from Bridgewater into Bound Brook was redirected, forcing drivers onto the north side of I-287.

The Bridgewater and Bound Brook Police Departments both declined to comment Sunday night on the details of the accident or the extent of the injuries of those involved.
