Cops: Officers Smash Car Window to Reach Drunken Man

Bedminster resident was found slumped over the wheel with a near-empty bottle of wine in florist parking lot, police said.

A Bedminster man faces DWI and other charges after officers needed to smash his car window when he was found Monday slumped over the wheel with a bottle of wine and the motor running in the driveway of the Martinsville Florist, Bridgewater Police said.

Frank Scarletella, 36, was charged with DWI, refusing to provide breath samples and having an open container of alcohol.

Police said a caller reported seeing the running vehicle at the Washington Valley Road business. Officers smashed a rear window of the vehicle to get inside, where they observed a nearly-empty bottle of wine on the steering wheel, police said.
