Police: Driver Hit Divider, Went Airborne in Route 22 Crash

The driver is in stable condition at Robert Wood Johnson.

Bridgewater Township Police are investigating a Thursday crash in which a driver had to be extricated from his vehicle after he went airborne and rolled over several times before coming to rest on Route 22 West.

The crash occurred, according to a release from the department, at 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Vosseller Avenue.

According to police, the driver's identity is currently being withheld while notification is made to the family, and he is in stable condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Police said the driver was in a 2010 Infiniti G37 while he was traveling in the left lane of Route 22 West. The driver, police said, struck the concrete divider several times before the intersection with Vosseller Avenue, then crossed the intersection and struck the divider again on the west side of the highway.

From there, police said, the vehicle went airborne from the impact and struck the traffic light standard before rolling over several times and coming to a stop in the westbound lanes of Route 22.

The Bound Brook Rescue Squad and Finderne Fire Department were able to extricate the driver from the vehicle, and he was treated by the Somerset Medical Center MICU 681 before being flown by the state police to the hospital.

Police said they are still investigating why the driver struck the concrete divider in the first place.

Other and onto Vosseller Avenue while the crash was cleared, and traffic was stalled on both sides of the highway for several hours Thursday evening.
