Home Invasion Report Fabricated, Police Say

No charges have been filed and the case is considered closed.

No charges are being filed against the Cedar Crest Road resident who filed a false report about a home invasion Tuesday, according to a release from the Bridgewater Township Police Department.

According to a statement released by Lt. Al Nicaretta, a resident on Cedar Crest Road contacted police around 10:26 a.m. Tuesday to report a home invasion.

An investigation was conducted by both the Bridgewater Township Police and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office. Both determined that the alleged victim had fabricated the report of the invasion, the release said.

Jack Bennett, of the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, also confirmed that the alleged home invasion was a false report.

Nicaretta said no charges are being filed against the resident who fabricated the report.

Nicaretta declined to provide information as to why no charges are being filed.

The case, the release said, is considered closed at this point, and no further action is pending.
