Cops: Man Nearly Hits Patrol Car, Found With Pot

And police are investigating several vehicle burglaries.

A Piscataway resident was arrested on drug charges after he crossed a double yellow line and almost struck a patrol car on Finderne Avenue at 12:38 a.m. March 29.

Matthew Margavitz, 26, was charged with possession of marijuana in the incident.

According to Bridgewater Township Police, Margavitz was stopped after crossing the double line, and officers reported smelling marijuana in the vehicle. A bag with the drug was found inside the car.

Police are also investigating several thefts throughout the township from the past week.

  • A Severin Drive resident reported at 11 p.m. March 26 that someone removed a copper pot from the front of her garage. Police said the pot was valued at $55.
  • A Washington Valley Road resident reported at 2 a.m. March 29 that someone entered his home and removed a safe that contained $4,500.
  • Police are investigating a report, at 4:04 p.m. March 29, that someone removed 60 Polo shirts from Hollister. Police said the shirts were valued at $2,070.
  • A Greenfield Road resident reported at 12:30 a.m. April 3 that someone entered his vehicle and removed merchandise valued at $205.
  • Xiaoxia Zhao, 54, of North Brunswick, was charged with shoplifting after allegedly being found with $216 worth of merchandise from at 12:43 p.m. April 2.
