Police: Man Sitting on Route 22 Divider Became Verbally Abusive

Also, two unlocked cars were allegedly burglarized on Saratoga Avenue.

Bridgewater police arrested a Somerville man for disorderly conduct after he allegedly became abusive and failed to follow directions.

Police say Kyle V. Van Ness, 26, was sitting on the center divider of Route 22 near Thompson Avenue on Monday when police approached him. Ness allegedly became verbally abusive and failed to follow officers' directions. He was subsequently arrested and lodged in the Somerset County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.

  • Ivan Chio, 28, of Basking Ridge, was arrested on March 14 for allegedly shoplifting $409 worth of merchandise from Macy's at the Bridgewataer Commons Mall.
  • Two residents of Saratoga Avenue reported separately that on March 15 their cars, which were unlocked, were burglarized. Police say spare change was reportedly taken.
  • On Friday, police arrested William Sporman Jr., 25, of Hillsborough, and charged him with shoplifting after he allegedly took merchandise valued at $19.99 from Costco. 
  • On Saturday, police arrested Andrea J. Merzel, 35, Rochester, N.Y., and charged her with shoplifting and defiant trespassing. Merzel allegedly took merchandise valued at $85 from Lord and Taylor after after being banned from the store on May 20, 2010.
