Police Searching for Suspect in Armed Robbery at Somerville Gas Station

Anyone with information is asked to call the Somerville Police Department.

The Somerville Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at the Hess gas station in Somerville that occurred Friday, according to a release from the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano, police responded to a call at 9:24 a.m. Friday of an armed robbery at the gas station on Route 202/206 in Somerville.

The victim, an employee at the gas station Soriano said, reported that at about 9:20 a.m., he entered the convenience store at the gas station when a male in the store's rear room approached him and knocked him to the ground. Soriano said the victim reported that the suspect brandished a knife and demanded money.

At that point, Soriano said, the victim reported that the suspect stole his wallet, car keys, cell phone and money. The suspect, Soriano said, then tied the victim up with electrical extension cord and left the store.

Soriano said the victim was not harmed in the incident, but he was able to free himself and found that the suspect had stolen his beige 2002 Acura 4-door MDX. The license plate on the vehicle is New Jersey SED-31F.

Soriano said the suspect is described as a black male in his 40s, approximately 6-feet 1-inches tall, with a thin build. The victim, Soriano said, reported the suspect was wearing a tan knit hat, dark colored pants and a dark colored sweatshirt.
