Power May Not Be Back On for Two Weeks, OEM Says

JCP&L's projected Hopatcong power restoration numbers on Sunday were not met, officer says.

remained in the dark Monday, the Hopatcong OEM coordinator said.

Officer Robert Haffner, coordinator of the OEM, said it was unclear why the utility company was not able to get the power back to the residents. He said the latest prediction for power restoration in the whole town is within two weeks.

Some areas around the borough have gotten their power back, while the majority of town remains in the dark.

Police said the center of town by the Municipal Building first got power back on Saturday night.

Residents have reported having power back on Chincopee Avenue, Lilchester Road, River Styx Road, Amherst Way, and Elba Point.

Haffner said the crews are working in the substations throughout town, and is unsure as to which areas will be geting their power back first.

JCP&L spokesman Mark Nipowski could not give an estimate on Monday when Hopatcong will get its power restored or why the 1,900 homes did not get their power back, but said the majority of customers throughout the North Jersey region will get their power restored by Wednesday night.

He said there were 2,900 customers in the borough without power as of Monday.

Nipowski said throughout the territory, there are 8,200 workers involved in the restoration efforts.

Mayor Sylvia Petillo said there were 19 JCP&L workers out in the borough on Sunday working to restore the power.  She said crews have been working 16-hour shifts daily to clean the debris from Sandy's damage to get the power back up and running.

Try sitting in their trucks sipping coffee or reading the paper or sleeping.

I live on Indian Trail, Hopatcong, and it is now November 10th. and still no POWER from JCP&L!!!! who dropped the ball here.... you call customer service and all you get is... your account number please, your name... then you start all over again about the situation and the response is... we will be putting in a new ticket for you because you previous one has expired...?????What the Hell are you talking about.. been without power since 5:18 PM Monday, Oct. 29th along with many others. but have yet to see a truck except for yesterday, Nov 9th. 2 trucks to be exact on Lakesdied Ave. which runs into Indian Trail. Then I was told that my power comes from Dover, NJ sub station??? We want a reliable person if any that is associated with JCP&L to tell us what the hell is going on and a representative of the town that can give us some peace of mind in this aftermath instead of all the lies that have been told. Lakeside Ave. has been hit hard which leads into Indian Trail... half of all the trees were cut by our own....we need help up here!!!!! 2 wks and no power has damaged alot in some homes who btw have septic and well which is most of us...now saying this Sunday, Nov. 11th... I will be calling this morning to see what lie I hear next....

Wonderful words Heather! I just got power back last night. Yes I was freezing, trying to see by candle light and trying to keep my furry companions warm. I do have a fireplace, so we were somewhat warm in the living room. But my home and my family were unharmed by this storm. For this I am grateful!
