Request for Additional Fire District 4 Funding Approved

Voters approve the latest referendum.

At a special meeting Thursday, voters in Fire District 4 voted 30-0 in favor of increasing funding for two new trucks for the Finderne Fire Company.

District 4 encompasses only the Finderne Fire Company.

Voters in Fire District 4 originally approved a referendum in mid-April to purchase two new fire trucks. The district was requesting approval to purchase a triple combination pumper fire apparatus and a 100-foot aerial platform fire apparatus.

The request was for $1.25 million.

But the district only received one bid for the trucks, and it came in about $108,000 higher than they had originally anticipated.

The special vote Thursday was to increase the original approval by $110,000.

District 4 commissioner Allen Kurdyla has said that taxes would not increase in the first referendum vote, and they will not increase with the additional $110,000 either.

Instead, Kurdyla has said, they will consider putting off the next purchase of new equipment.

Now that the increase in funds has been approved, Kurdyla said, the district will move forward with that one submitted bid, and go out for approval of the purchase from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, as required.
