Armed Robbers Sought in Raritan Motel Incident

Four men with a submachine gun stole $2,500 from Super 8 on Route 202, prosecutor says.

A reward is being offered in the investigation of an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday at the Super 8 Motel on Route 202 in Raritan, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano.

The reward is set at up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of the individuals responsible for the robbery, Soriano said.

Soriano said that at about 2:04 a.m. Tuesday, four men entered the main lobby of the Super 8 Motel with a submachine gun. Once inside the lobby, Soriano said, the robbers physically forced a female guest and motel clerk into the main office.

After ransacking the office, Soriano said, the men left the building.

Soriano said the clerk of the motel called 911 at 2:13 a.m. to report the incident.

The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Squad and Raritan Borough Police Department responded to the scene to investigate the case. Soriano said they believe the individuals arrived and left the motel in a dark-colored sedan with a sun roof.

Anyone with information about the robbery should contact the Raritan Borough Police at 908-725-6700, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Squad at 908-231-7100 or the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office TIPS line at 1-888-577-8477.

All calls will be confidential.

Sub-Machine guns are illegal in New Jersey. Oh, that’s right, criminals don’t give two hoots if it is legal or not, but they are thankful our strict gun control laws have disarmed the law abiding citizens!

Sorry to bring your comment back to life, but that's what I dont get about the anti-gun, (more) liberal crowd. They really think that restricting gun ownership will make crime rates (that involve firearms) go down. What they fail to realize is that most crimes that involve guns, where the person with the gun was the one committing the offense, the weapons were illegally obtained. They all neglect the shooting at that mall in Oregon a few weeks back where a bystander with a CCP/CCL merely drew his gun and aimed it at the perp, which caused the shooter to retreat and kill himself.

Maybe reducing the magazine capacity from 15 rounds to 10 would have prevented this burglary.
