Route 22 East Ramps to Bridge, Grove Streets Closed

Ramps into Somerville will be closed about three months.

The eastbound Route 22 ramps at North Bridge and Grove streets will remain closed for about three months starting this weekend.

Eastbound Route 22 motorists destined for North Bridge Street (south) will be directed to continue on Route 22 to North Gaston Avenue, utilizing the U-turn to return to Route 22 westbound onto North Bridge Street (heading north of Route 22), then make a right onto North Grove Street over Route 22, then make a left onto Ivanhoe Avenue back to North Bridge Street heading south.

North Bridge Street motorists destined for Route 22 eastbound will be directed to make a left onto Ivanhoe Avenue then a right on Davenport Street to the on-ramp for Route 22 eastbound.

Route 22 eastbound motorists destined for Grove Street (south of Route 22) will be directed to continue on Route 22 to North Gaston Avenue utilizing the U-turn to return to Route 22 westbound onto North Bridge Street (heading north of Route 22) then make a right onto North Grove Street to cross over Route 22 and head south.

The work is included as part of the $7.9 million safety improvement and congestion relief project that began in February along a three-mile stretch of Route 22 in Bridgewater and Somerville.

The project will reconstruct and widen the existing highway shoulders to provide for new auxiliary acceleration/deceleration lanes along Route 22, creating safer and improved access at key locations.

In addition, the project includes myriad design and technological upgrades intended to improve traffic flow through the corridor. The project is scheduled for completion in early-summer 2014.
